My Honest Thoughts on the GLi.Net Slate VPN Router

The GL-AXT18000 is GL.iNet's latest version of their "slate" series VPN router. I've been using these since they came out with the older GL-AR750S "slate". They are powerful, capable, compact travel routers that can handle whatever you throw at them. Seriously, these little things are awesome.

This new slate router has the following features:

• Uses the newer Wi-Fi 6 for faster network speeds
• Great size - fits in one hand and very easy to pack
• USB Type C power supply
• Supports VPN services (OpenVPN and WireGuard)
• Has an SD Card slot for sharing files
• Runs on the OpenWrt operating system, giving you a lot of advanced features

GL.iNet makes a ton of different travel routers with different features. But rest assured, you'll probably be happy with whichever one you choose.

One downside to the new Slate VPN Router is the price. It's around $115USD at the time of writing this. It's well worth it - but if you don't need all it's features (especially the number of ports and radio range), you might want to consider the slate's little brother: the Shadow. At around $30USD, it's a bargain and can do a lot of the same stuff.
